Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

(*indicates links to photos)

Q: How does the Casino Party work?

A: Every attendee gets $500 in chips and can bet at any of the games. There is a roulette* table, a craps* table, a Texas Hold 'Em (poker) table, and several blackjack* tables. After the tables close, we auction* the grand prizes*. People bid on the prizes using the chips they have won. If you don't win many chips, there is also a raffle prize, but you must be present to win.

Q: When will the party be over?

A: The tables will close at 10:30PM, and the auction will start shortly thereafter. The auction will end by 11:00PM.

Q: What if I have to leave early?

A: There are additional prizes available for those who leave early or who don't get a prize in the auction. All attendees must leave with a prize!

Q: Who runs the gaming tables?

A: Several of my friends like to run the games. Each takes an hour shift at a table, so they can also enjoy playing games during the party. If you are familiar with the rules of blackjack, poker, roulette, or craps and can take a shift, please let me know, as I can always use more dealers*.

Q: What if I don't know how to play the games?

A: Blackjack, poker, roulette, and craps rules are online, and printed rules sheets are available at the party. Also, the dealers and other players will be happy to teach you. This is a great place to learn a new game, since you aren't losing real money (like in Las Vegas). Plus, our odds are better than in a real casino.

Q: What if I'm not sure I can be there?

A: You can RSVP as a "probably" or a "maybe". This helps me get a better head count so I can have enough food, prizes, and blackjack dealers. In the end, just show up at the party if you can. I won't turn you away. :-)

Q: Will there be food at the party?

A: We will be serving hors d’oeuvres and snacks as well as wine, beer, soda, and other drinks.

Q: What should I bring to the party?

A: NOTHING. Please don't bring wine or other gifts unless you clear it first with the host. (Send e-mail to casino@gwennap.com.) We have plenty of stuff already. Your presence is the greatest gift to us. Thanks!

Q: What should I wear?

A: Men, wear a coat and a tie or a full suit. If you wear a tuxedo*, you won't be the only one. Women, wear a nice evening dress or a dress suit. Women who need further fashion advice should check out the photo gallery*.

Q: Do I have to dress up?

A: No, but most people at the party do. It's a great excuse to break out that nice dress or suit that you don't wear very much. But if you really don't like wearing fancy clothes, dress as nice as you can. Just don't be embarassed if you are the only one there in jeans.

Q: Are children welcome at the party?

A: As this is a formal event, we prefer that you make other arrangements for your children. If this is a problem, please contact the host. Teenagers may attend if they plan to associate with the adults, play the casino games, and behave maturely. Teenagers can also volunteer to help deal.
